At the Kinokawa River, which flows from east to west through the northern part of Wakayama Prefecture and empties into the Seto Inland Sea, young ayu (sweetfish) are currently swimming upstream. Measuring about 5 to 7 centimeters in length, tens of thousands of them strive each day to ascend the Kinokawa River Weir.
