Takijiri-oji → Takahara

This scenic mountain section marks the traditional entrance to the sacred mountains of Kumano. Pilgrims historically began their journey here before traveling deeper into the mountains.

Compared to the mountainous Nakahechi route, this path offers a fascinating look at the early stages of the Kumano pilgrimage as travelers moved along the coast before entering the interior mountains.

The walk begins near Fujishiro, historically known as an important gateway point on the pilgrimage route, and passes through rural landscapes and historic villages connected to the Kumano tradition.
