Wakayama Castle
Wakayama Castle, towering in front of Wakayama City Hall, is the symbol of this prefectural capital. This castle was built by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1585. After several lords ruled, the castle became the home of the Kishu Tokugawa family. But the buidlings were destroyed by fire during World War II. Shortly after the war, the castle was rebuilt using reinforced concrete at the ardent request of the citizens in 1957.
